We’re moving ever-so-slowly toward the release of Insomniac Games’ . The PlayStation 4 exclusive has been receiving lots of new info-dumps moving through the spring, with one interesting tidbit of information being that gamers will be able to utilize different play-styles for the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Game Informer is reporting that there are different ways to battle foes in the game. Creative director Bryan Intihar from Insomniac Games explained that the game affords for different kinds of play-styles and combat philosophies, telling Game Informer…
There are going to be moments where you definitely want to go in, it’s going to be fast, it’s going to be hectic, but there are going to be opportunities depending on how you want to play the game where you actually can slow things down a bit, be a little bit more strategic, a little bit more cerebral and actually take guys out without even alerting others.
This is a neat approach to the gameplay because it means that different players will be able to employ different kinds of combat tactics in order to dispatch foes.
Intihar goes through explaining that players can utilize Spider-Man’s web, his standard melee attacks, his gadgets and the environment as a way to dispatch of foes. He can also mix and match these elements to create a fighting style wholly unique to the player.
The idea is that you’re able to string together combos and create new battle tactics based on the different abilities featured in .
Most of the combat starts with the basic combos from the Square button, and from there players are able to branch out and utilize a mix of acrobatics, web and gadgets.
One of the things that’s showcased in the demonstration videos is that Spider-Man is able to launch enemies into the air, and propel himself vertical to match height with them. From there, players are able to pummel the bad guys in mid-air or string them up with webbing. It doesn’t end there, though.
As Intihar points out, it’s possible to keep using the web to swing the bad guys around and ram them into other enemies, or launch the guy into the ground to incapacitate him.
You can also utilize Spider-Man’s acrobatics to combine the melee with the web-slinging, jumping and flipping around to dodge incoming attacks while webbing up your foes.
In one sequence in we see Spider-Man launch a man into the air and then kick him off into the distance. For another group of guys we see him rapidly fire his web to stop them from advancing on his position.
The different gadgets also help to give Spidey a few alternative ways to takedown foes, not unlike the gadgets present in or Rocksteady’s series. In fact, there’s a strong similitude between the combat present in Insomniac’s and Rocksteady’s . The major difference is that Spider-Man doesn’t have a block/counter button, but instead has a dodge button.
You can look for to launch September 7th for PS4.
